Kaya Byinshii

Kaya Byinshii
recording and touring singer, songwriter, composer and performer

A recording and touring singer, songwriter, composer and performer. She was introduced to music and its spiritual power that she reflects, at a very young age. Her music is a unique sound of her vocals, a fusion of world music, soul, blues, folk and Rwandan traditional rhythm.

In 2020, she released her introductory project “NYABYINSHI EP” in honor of the ancient Rwandan Goddess, Nyabyinshi, which loosely translates to one who owns many, under Green Ferry Music. A year later, she was selected a finalist in Prix Decouvertes – RFI 2021. Her latest Album “UKWIYUBURURA” translates to the skin peeling of a snake; a symbolism of her/commonly human evolution.

The summer of June – July 2023, she toured the Album throughout Bujumbura, Kampala, Algiers, Annaba, Constantine, Tlemcen, Oran, Djibouti, Nairobi, Addis Ababa and Kigali, accompanied by the rwandan music collector/archiver and producer, Michael Makembe.

So far, Byinshii’s notable works include the Opening of Festival du Film Francophone d’Angoulême 2022, music author and compositor for Marie-France Brière’s recent documentary about cognac and literature, “Delamain” to mention a few. She has shared a stage with music icons such as Erik Truffaz, At Le Rocher de Palmer (Bordeaux, France) with Oumou Sangare and Kahil El Zabar.
